It’s a wrap!

The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.

Discover the Magic of the Ocean with self-confident-diver.com

With the overwhelming support of the dive community over the last 10 years, PADI Women’s Dive Day has unquestionably grown into a worldwide celebration that brings everyone together to foster a global community that encourages divers of all genders, ages, races, backgrounds and experience levels to safely and confidently seek adventure and save the ocean.

What began in 2015 to encourage more female participation in the sport has evolved over the years, gaining traction across this industry with both males and females alike. Since it began, tens of thousands of new and experienced divers have taken part in more than 4,000 PADI Women’s Dive Day events in over 100 countries around the world.

This year, we invite divers to join the global celebration on 19 July 2025 to help create balance between humanity and the ocean. PADI Members are encouraged to host an event – in person or virtually – that celebrates the diversity of the dive community and nurtures the connection between our communities and the waters where we dive.

PADI Womens Dive Day 2024 with Dive Confident

Strong, confident, independent women

Women's Dive Day has seen thousands of divers around the world come together in dives, training sessions, and social events, all designed to highlight the achievements of female divers and inspire the next generation.

The 2024 event will continue this tradition, offering a variety of activities and opportunities for women of all skill levels to connect, share experiences, and build confidence in their diving abilities. By spotlighting women's contributions to scuba diving, PADI Women's Dive Day not only empowers individual divers but also strengthens the broader diving community.

As of recent years, women make up approximately 35% of newly certified scuba divers.

However, this percentage decreases to about 23% for higher certification levels. There has been a steady increase in the number of female divers, with some dive organisations reporting that women constitute nearly 40-50% of their Open Water Diver students.

We love you!

Efforts like PADI Women’s Dive Day aim to further boost these numbers by promoting inclusivity and encouraging more women to take up scuba diving. Initiatives like these help highlight the contributions of women in the diving community and create supportive environments for female divers to thrive and excel.

It does not matter to us if you are BSAC, PADI, SSI, TDI...... or part of any other agency.

What does matter to us is that you are a wonderful, strong, powerful, determine woman who loves to dive.

YOU are a wonderful, strong, powerful, determined woman who loves to dive.

We are excited to invite a number of Self-Confident followers to share their story about why diving is important to them you.

Whether it's the tranquillity of the deep, the thrill of exploration, or the connection with marine life, or the mindfulness it gives us in this fast-paced world we live in.

Emma

I have always been drawn to the water and must have a paddle whenever I am near the sea. Water has a magnetizing effect on me.

My curiosity about the wonders of the oceans made scuba diving a dream come true. Diving overseas on holiday has allowed me to explore stunning shipwrecks and encounter diverse marine life.

As I descend into the water, my mind is silenced, embracing the present moment.

Life on the surface fades away.

Each dive allows my thoughts to focus on my breathing, be entertained by marine life, and be in awe of what lies beneath the surface.

I never would have dared to dream that my passion for diving would lead me to teach others. I continue to meet great people and witness my students grow in confidence, and have a whole lot of fun.

Sigita

If somebody would have asked me a year ago if I would scuba dive, I would have told them that they are insane! I would never even dunk my head under water!

A year later- completed my Advanced Open Water course along with the Self-Confident Diver Course. What’s more…… I am loving it!

It was a bumpy ride to begin with, but now I stride in to water with confidence and enjoying every moment under water ❤️

Elizabeth

From day one of my advanced course, my mentor Tommy told me one day I would be an instructor. It was the first time in my life that someone told me I could do something. As women, we are so often told what we can't do or should do.

This was the first time someone said I was good at something. 3 years later, he got to see me pass my IE. Yes we both cried. Now I get to give that confidence and belief in something back to new divers. There is something so powerful about giving someone their confidence back.

Stephanie

Diving provides me with a welcome break from the fast-paced nature of everyday life.

It is a unique sport that has provided opportunities to explore places I would never have thought to, developed my self-confidence in and out of water, offered adventures, friends, and teaching opportunities as a PADI Divemaster, and inspired my love and appreciation for the underwater world. Taking some knocks along the way has shaped me into a more resilient and self-aware person, and given me determination to continue growing and exploring.

I am honoured to have dived alongside, and been taught by, some incredibly inspiring women, who are credit to the industry and continuously drive it forward!

Ayse

I got into diving because of my passion for sea life and the underwater world.

I later discovered many other opportunities that come with diving . In the future one of my aims is to be a marine biologist working alongside sharks or dolphins.

Scuba diving is like entering a whole new world underwater, discovering the beauty of the ocean firsthand. The ocean is fascinating because it's teeming with life in all shapes and colours.

Exploring the underwater world up close via scuba diving allows me to witness incredible ecosystems, coral reefs, and unique creatures I wouldn't see anywhere else.

The sense of adventure that comes with diving truly captivates me

Nikki

I've always been captivated by the natural world, and from a young age, I knew that being immersed in nature was my calling. My journey into diving began during my time as a conservation research assistant in South Africa, where I achieved my PADI Open Water certification. I was hooked.

After my Open Water course, my fascination with the ocean only grew. I pursued a Master's degree in Tropical Marine Biology, where I developed a particular interest in cetacean ecology and coral reef restoration. These experiences deepened my understanding and appreciation of marine life and the delicate ecosystems that support it.

Now, as a Divemaster and marine conservationist, I have the privilege of sharing my passion for the underwater world with others and raising awareness about critical conservation issues 🌊

Zoe

I have a health condition that prevents me from diving, but that doesn’t stop me from getting the water. I am a qualified skin diver and love getting involved. It is a wonderful feeling that sometimes I can’t put into words.

Being there when someone is nervous before they get in the water and seeing their face when they exit - the achievement.  They have enjoyed it.

It's that warm feeling knowing you’ve been a part of their success.  It’s the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped someone gain a qualification. It’s teamwork which makes the dream work.  We’ve all played a part.

Bernadette

My fears and my anxieties of the water along with the unknown created a huge barrier for me in so many ways. I carried these fears around with me from the very young age of about 8 years old. My friend who was a scuba diver would tell me all these wonderful stories of what she had seen when she went diving and this got me thinking. So, I decided at the age of 50 I had to at least try.

When I dive now, I have calmness instead of feeling anxious and I have grown in confidence in so many other ways, I feel a real sense of achievement on every dive I complete.

The sound of the bubbles that surround me and the mind-blowing colours are just awesome in this wonderful world that lies beneath us.

Jasmine

I enjoy scuba diving because it allows me to explore new inspiring places, as well as meet many magnificent creatures in person - such as dolphins, seals and sharks.

Scuba diving allows me to feel weightless as I float through new environments creating new memories and diving friends along the way; I also enjoy being able to explore historical wrecks, such as the Royal Adelaide just off of Chesil Beach.

Jasmine | Junior Divemaster

Larissa

Last year I had dream of diving in Iceland, in the gorge between the European and North American tectonic plates. For that I needed a PADI open water and dry suit training.

A few months later I’ve done that dive, touching Europe with my right hand and North America with my left. And this was just a start.

Diving is a cool sport. It extends your borders and brings more opportunities and excitement in your life. Since then I’ve swam alongside turtles and came close to resting sharks.

Diving is a dream for many people. I’ve made that step that allows me to live the dream.

Larissa | Advanced Open Water

Kalina

I got into diving because I always loved water and after doing a discover scuba dive I realised that diving is pure magic. It is a form of mediation for me.

Kalina | Advanced Open Water

Tanisha

Diving is a release from the everyday grind and creates a focus that you never knew existed.

When diving I am solely thinking about the here and now, a bit like meditation in the grounding into the present moment. It’s calming and relaxing.

You get to meet many people from all walks of life and everyone I have come across is ready to help you, be it with putting on your kit, theory, confidence or even sharing places they have been that they think others will enjoy.

It’s a community and it’s one that I am excited to be part of.
